Utillian 720 Review - The Return of UtillianBuild Quality92%Vapor Quality93%Look & Feel80%Difficulty90%Portability85%Discreetness90%92%Overall ScoreIn 2015 we received the first Utillian unit for review, the Utillian 651. Overall we thought the Utillian 651 was a pretty decent unit for this new vaporizer company. Today we were lucky enough to get our hands on the newest vaporizer offered by Utillian, the Utillian 720. This unit features convection heating which is a welcome addition and usually found on higher end units, drawing direct comparison to the Crafty. You can check out our Utillian 720 vs Crafty post to see how those use compare to each other. Read on to see how the Utillian 720 stacks up against the field. Product Pros Convection Heating Large chamber Good vapor and airflow Magnetic Cap Long battery life Charges via USB Great value Product Cons Harsh vapor on highest temperature. Rubber coating can wear off Utillian 720 Review: Breakdown Quality Build Quality The Utillian 720 is well put together. All components are high quality, well machined and fit together nicely. The shell of the unit is made of anodized aluminum with a rubberized finish. It feels sturdy in the hands while still remaining lightweight and portable. The top of the unit and the mouthpiece is made out of heat resistant plastic and it locks into place with a magnet. While we don’t love the use of plastic for the mouthpiece it has proven to be sturdy from our testing and does not seem to influence taste which we will touch on later. The power button is responsive and LED temperature indicator at the top of the unit is nice and bright. Vapor Quality The Utillian 720 employs the use of convection heating. You can check out our article that describes in detail the benefits of convection heating here. Convection heating on the Utillian 720 makes this unit draw like a pencil. Vapor is smooth, flavorful, as we stated earlier we have found little to no influence on the flavor despite the plastic cap. Unlike other vaporizers which require you to lightly sip on the unit to get decent vapor, the Utillian 720 has little draw resistance allowing users to inhale more freely without compromising vapor quality. Overall we were very happy with the vapor this unit produces. It has 4 base temperature settings and a boost mode that will bump each temperature by 5 degrees celcius allowing the unit to offer great temperature flexibility. At lower temperature vapor is full of flavor, light and wispy. At higher temperatures your herbs still maintain their flavor while produces thick dense clouds of vapor. Although we did find on the highest heat setting vapor was a bit harsh and did begin to lose its flavor. We really recommend reserving the highest temperature setting for wax and concentrates. Design Look and Feel Many will draw comparisons of the Utillian 720 to the Crafty. They have a similar profile and design. This is not necessarily bad thing as we do enjoy how the Crafty feels. What we enjoyed a bit more with the Utillian 720 was the aluminum shell, it feels more sturdy than compared to the plastic exterior of the crafty. We would not feel as worried dropping the 720, like we would dropping a crafty as the plastic has a tendency to crack. Overall the Utillian 720 is minimalistic, sleek, sturdy and easily fits in the palm of your hand or in a pocket. Discreetness The Utillian 720 is small enough to hide in your hand or can easily be placed in a pocket, bag, purse or murse to be kept out of sight. Because this unit uses convection heating your botanicals will only be cooked as you draw from the unit, meaning the overall odor from the device should be less during a session as the aroma should really only be coming from your exhales. On lower temperatures vapor is thin and quickly dissipates into the room making it discreet to others that may be around you. Ease of Use Keeping in line with the Utillian 650, the Utillian 720 only has 1 button which makes using the device a breeze. 5 quick clicks will turn the unit on and it will begin heating to the last pre-set temperature. Pressing the button twice will cycle between temperature ranges and pressing and holding the button will enable and disable the boost mode. Once the LED at the top of the unit turns solid you are ready to start inhaling. The unit has an auto shut off every 5 minutes to conserve battery, just press the power button 5 times to continue your session. Portability As we previously stated, the Utillian 720 can easily fit into a pocket or bag for easy portability. The mouthpiece swivels to sit flush to the unit for easy storing. The Utillian 720 also has about 90 minutes of battery life. This is twice as long as the Crafty and a huge advantage of the Utillian 720. You can be confident taking the 720 out for a day of vaping without having to worry too much about it dying. There is a battery indicator on the bottom of the device so you will always have an idea where your charge is at when vaping out and about. The unit also features USB charging which we are happy to see, this makes it much easier to plug in if you find yourself low on battery. Compatible with ZEUS IcebornThis vaporizer is compatible with the ZEUS Iceborn, a revolutionary new vapor cooling system engineered by Canadian vape manufacturer ZEUSArsenal. The Iceborn is designed to produce cooler draws and bigger clouds when connected to your vaporizer. The vapour produced is ultra smooth and crisp and because of ice cooling, instead of water filtration, there is no loss of efficiency. The ZEUS Iceborn adds an additional 2 points to the vapor quality score of this vaporizer and is a highly recommended vaporizer accessory. Conclusion We have to say, Utillian has done an excellent job with this new unit. The use of convection heating really pleased us and directly contributed to this units impressive vapor quality. It is not quite as good as the Crafty or the Prima, but it’s pretty darn close, and for the price of the unit you cannot go wrong. Also if we are comparing it to the Crafty, we were very happy to see a much stronger battery life from the Utillian 720, nearly twice as long as the Crafty. This really makes the Utillian 720s value stand out as a great convection vaporizer. If you think this convection based vaporizer is a unit you want to add to your collection you can grab the Utillian 720 from TVape.com. Related 4 Responses karine June 20, 2017 hi Dan! just one question : can the Utilian 720 be used while being on charge ? thanks Karine Reply Dan C June 21, 2017 Hey Karine, Unfortunately the 720 cannot be used while charging. But even on units that do allow pass-through charging, I usually do not recommend it. Using a vaporizer while charging puts a lot of strain on the battery as it is put outputting power and in-taking power at the same time. This will greatly degrade a units battery life over time, meaning your battery will not hold as much of a charge as it once did. This degredation is normal for batteries, but will happen much quicker if the unit is used while charging. So while it is a bit more convenient at the time, in the end your unit/battery will die much quicker. Also as a general tip for lithium batteries, it is better to charge them when they are about 50% rather than completely dead. The old adage with batteries was deplete fully and recharge. For the new lithium batteries this is actually bad for the battery and will shorten its lifespan. If you constantly keep the battery topped up the life of the battery should be extended. Hopefully this helps. Reply Diana June 21, 2017 I think Utillian 720 can be my next toking buddy. I just hope it doesn’t get too harsh. Would try keep the temperature low anyways. Nice review Dan! But but.. I can see this is an old review. Is this vape still in trend? Or maybe popular in the market. If not then which one should I get? Reply Dan C June 21, 2017 Hey Diana, The nice thing with the Utillian 720 is that it gives you a total of 8 temperature settings to work with so you will be able to find your sweet spot. The Utillian 720 is only about a year old at this point and is still very popular. In fact we still have it ranked in the top 5 of best vaporizers available, which is a list that is constantly changing, so I don’t see it being out of fashion anytime soon. Especially when units like the Crafty and Mighty have been around for 3 years or more now and are still considered top tiered units. For the price of the 720 there is not much else out their that can get you similar vapor quality.
