Today we look at the Wismec Reuleaux RX Gen 3, the latest of a popular line of e-cigs from Wismec. The  RX Gen 3 looks to offer a smaller, lighter and more ergomic mod compared to the Gen 2 device that was rather bulky. It also offers an impressive 300 watts of power and can hold up to 3 18650 batteries for some serious battery life.

Coming in at an extremely tiny 113.7mm*48.8mm*39.3mm, the RX Gen 3 can actually be considered not only the tiniest 3 battery device but also a mod that even outdoes many dual 18650 devices out in the market right now in terms of overall compactness. Featuring a revised new facade that significantly differs from its previous iterations, the Gen 3  looks sleek and sexy as hell, with a design that is remarkably reminiscent of the entire RX line but with a touch of refinement that marks its place as the penultimate and superior version of the entire lineup.

The front of the mod holds the futuristic and fresh looking front plate seamlessly melding the screen with the entire front region of the mod, which in my opinion, looks really really good. Featuring the same JayBo marked firing button with the familiar up and down wattage buttons located directly below it. All buttons used on the Gen 3 are extremely and respond well to touch, making operation easy, smooth, and fun. The display itself shows off a much-upgraded UI that easily surpasses the legibility and overall information of the older RX devices.

Looking at the bottom of the Gen 3 is the trapdoor battery compartment that holds a spring-loaded latch that lets the battery door pop right open. I feel that structurally speaking, this might be the weakest component of the entire mod as the hinge feels flimsy and weak, and frankly speaking, I wouldn’t be surprised if door stopped working optimally within a few months worth of use. Upon closer inspection of the battery compartment, you’ll find the slots for where each of the triple 18650 batteries slides into its series configuration for the device.

Battery tolerances are extremely tight for this device which explains a lot in regards to how Wismec was able to make the Gen 3 incredibly compact. Looking closely in between the spaces of the batteries installed in the mod, there is barely even half a millimeter of space between each of the three batteries. I feel that at some point during operation that its inevitable that some of the batteries end up touching so utmost battery safety is crucial here- Absolutely no using of batteries with torn or damaged wraps.

Moving ono the star of the show, the Gen 3’s 510 connection. For those of you who haven’t been following Wismec’s releases closely for the past year or two, Wismec has garnered a reputation for making well-designed devices with the unfortunate setback of using poor quality 510 connections. Well, I’m glad to report that isn’t the case any longer as the Gen 3 looks to be sporting a totally new spring loaded 510 connection that promises to make perfect connections to all of your atomizers.

Unlike the 510 of the Wismec Predator which was poorly press-fitted into the body of the mod which led to catastrophic issues in terms of build quality and durability, the Gen 3’s 510 seems to be built into the actual body of the device ensuring rock solid stability and durability. My only gripe regarding the 510 connection is despite the wattage potential of the Gen 3 to power the biggest and baddest atomizers out there, the Gen 3 only supports atomizers up to 25mm in diameter. Using anything larger than that will result in a very noticeable and unsightly overhang evident on the front portion of the device.

The Gen 3 kit comes bundled with new Gnome tank which supports the new WM coil heads. The included coil heads are the WM02 Dual 0.15 ohm coil head (rated for an ideal wattage of 45-60 watts), and a WM03 Triple 0.2ohm coil head (rated for an optimal setting of 70-90 watts).

Both coil heads perform well enough delivering enough flavor and vapor through the tank. Durability seems to be up there on the top as well with each of the coil heads lasting about 5-7 days of full straight use before noticing any discernable drop in flavor and vapor quality. For those into building their own coils, the Gnome features support for an RBA coil head which is sold separately.

Looking at the tank section itself, the Gnome sports a 25mm diameter base with a retractable sliding top fill mechanism not unlike the system found on Smok tanks, making refills easy, neat, and painless. The tank holds up to 4ml of eliquid and features what’s dubbed as a “stealth” dual bottom airflow control.

While I’m not 100% certain what’s so stealthy about the airflow control, adjusting the airflow control ring is simple enough to get that desired tightness or looseness in the draw.

Versatility

Versatility

The Gen 3 offers full support for each of the 3 Temperature Control modes, namely stainless steel, nickel, and titanium. Also provided is adjustable TCR modes and a customisable pre-heat setting for vaping in wattage mode.

While the Gen 3 is certainly capable of powering the largest coils you can muster to build, you won’t be able to use the large format atomizers such as the Mason on this device without noticeable overhang which is a pity as it feels like the Gen 3 has so much more to offer in terms of total power delivery.

Portability

Portability

The Gen 3 probably holds the singular title of being the only triple battery device that offers a modicum of portability. Fitting comfortably enough into most pockets making storage simple and easy, the Gen 3 is the high powered vapers dream finally letting them get their kicks on without having to lug around an unwieldy device that feels heavy and cumbersome to operate and carry.

The battery life is a gift that just keeps on giving as well lasting up to 2 full days worth of heavy use making it the perfect mod for carrying around on longer trips where a charger won’t be accessible.

Conclusion

For anyone in the market looking for a new, excellently designed high power device that goes up to 300 watts, the Gen 3 is definitely one of the best bets you can make.

Even for those shopping around for a simple 200 watt or 2 battery mod, the Gen 3 is still a great option due to its compact frame which rivals the majority of dual battery devices available in the market.

Just keep in mind that you’ll be needing 3 married batteries to safely run this sort of setup as well as a 4 bay external charger at the very least.
