At first sight, there seems little to choose with one over the other between the Arizer Air 2 and the DaVinci IQ. They’re both easy to use and virtually maintenance free. Both heat up fast and produce good thick clouds. Both also feature custom settings, long-life interchangeable batteries, and are perfectly portable. So which comes out on top when they go head-to-head? Read on to find out…

Vapor Quality

Arizer Air 2

The vapor quality of the Air 2 is consistently good. It’s smooth and full of flavor. In this respect, it delivers everything you would expect from a good quality convection vaporizer.

The Air 2 provides you with a smooth cool draw that lets you savor the full flavor of your herbs. This is due mainly to the convection method it employs. But it’s due also to its all-glass vapor path, which cools the vapor as you inhale, giving you a smoother flavor, and which is easy to keep clean and free of flavor contamination.

A drawback to the thin glass stem is that it constricts airflow. Air 2 went some way toward improving this, but it is still noticeable.

DaVinci IQ

One of the unique features of the DaVinci IQ is a slim vapor chamber that runs alongside the airpath, cooling the vapor as it’s drawn from the oven and preserving its purity and aroma. The vapor passes through this flavor chamber prior to hitting your lips, delivering a rich full-bodied taste.

The mouthpiece itself, with its innovative ceramic air path, raises the purity and richness of the flavor of dry herb. Thanks to its ceramic air path, made from the highest quality materials, you can easily pull thick, rich, high-quality draws with very little draw resistance. The vapor quality is exceptional, and the amount and density of the clouds the IQ produced is amazing.

The IQ comes with a flat and an extended mouthpiece. We found the extended mouthpiece to be the preferable one. Its extended shape delivers a cooler vapor and a better overall experience.

Build Quality

Arizer Air 2

Arizer is famous for the build quality of its products. They’re generally durable and easy-care.

A weakness of the Air 2, however, remains its glass components. While no one plans on dropping their vapes, accidents happen. We do drop things, some more than others. And, when we do drop things, we’d rather they didn’t break. Glass gives great vapor quality, but it’s fragile and you can find yourself having to buy replacement parts – or, worse, having to replace the whole unit.

The Air 2 comes with unlocked precision temperature control, ranging from 180-215°C. This gives you a decent choice of temperatures at which to cook and is a huge improvement on the five fixed heat settings the original Air offered.

The Air 2 is operated by three buttons and a digital display. It’s very easy to use. The bottom button is the on-off switch and doubles as the menu button to access all the device settings. The top two are + and – buttons for temperature adjustment. This gives you fairly versatile temperature control.

DaVinci IQ

The DaVinci IQ puts cannabis use on the modern tech shelf. Its Smart Path™ technology, including a free Bluetooth app, makes it extremely customizable, and its zirconia ceramic oven and vapor path brings vaping into the space as well as the digital age.

Zirconia – a.k.a. ‘ceramic steel – is a very dense material, which can withstand temperatures up to 4,350ºC. This makes the unit unsurpassed in terms of toughness and durability. The ceramic mouthpiece is also extrememly robust and easy to clean and maintain.

As mentioned above, the IQ is designed with two separate internal chambers – the newly designed flavor chamber, and the oven. The oven features a unique zirconia ‘pearl’, the purpose of which is to reflect more heat into the chamber to extract the active ingredients more efficiently.

The IQ also takes precision heating to a whole new level. The IQ’s Smart Path technology lets you choose from four different temperature pre-sets, by which the unit automatically selects the optimum temperature for your vaping sessions. To customise your experience within these settings, you can switch to precision mode. And to get the last drop of goodness from your weed towards the end of your session, you can switch to boost mode. An LED display guides the user through all three modes, allowing you to tailor your experience or craft your own.

Portability

Arizer Air 2

The portability of the Air 2 was much improved on its predecessor, the Air 1. The biggest improvement was in its battery life. In terms of battery life, we found the Air 2 to last about 45 minutes between charges. This equates to about 2-3 sessions per charge. This is a pretty decent performance for when you’re out and about.

The main shortcoming of the Air 2 remains the glass air stems, which you have to remove from the device and carry separately. Also, the fact they are glass means they are easily breakable, and the last thing you want is a glass stem breaking in your pocket.

Also, the Air 2 can be a bit fussy to use on the hoof. You have to pack your herbs into the bottom of the glass mouthpiece rather than directly into the oven, and this can be a little tricky when you’re on the move.

DaVinci IQ

Like the Air 2, the DaVinci IQ is small and compactly designed. This makes it easy to tote around with you. And like the Air2, the IQ also has a replaceable battery, which can be charged outside of the device.

Where the IQ does an advantage over the Air 2 is with its smooth funneled loading zone, which makes the IQ a bit less of a fuss when you’re out on the road. ease of loading. It’s Zirconia ceramics also make it highly resistant to fracturing or cracking. And like we said before, it’s ultra-robust.

Discreetness

Arizer Air 2

The Air 2 is similar in size to its predecessor. It resembles a larger vape pen or e-cig.

In all, with the glass stem extended, the Air 2 is about seven inches tall, which make it pretty unobtrusive.

DaVinci IQ

Small, compact design and shape, the IQ can easily be concealed in the palm of your hand, making it competitive with the Air 2 in terms of discreteness.

Winner: DaVinci IQ

If you’re a gadget geek, the DaVinci IQ is one for you. Also, patients in need of high CBD doses could benefit from the IQ, as it lets you cook off excess THC over longer periods of time, which is great if you’re sensitive to it. But the IQ is also suited to the general vaper. That being said, tthe IQ is dry herb only. If your source includes concentrates, you’ll be happier with the Air 2.

For us, the DaVinci IQ carries the day over the Air 2. While the Air 2 produces good vapor, in our opinion the flavor produced by the IQ is unsurpassed. With its zirconia ceramic materials, the IQ presents more robust and durable build, and its digital technology cleverly enhances the IQ’s functionality without making it inaccessible to the non-techie user. While both the Air 2 and the IQ are much-of-a-muchness when it comes to portability and discreteness, the IQ’s superior robustness gives it the edge.

If you are thinking of picking up a DaVinci IQ or the Arizer Air 2, we recommend grabbing them from TVape.com, they have no tax and free shipping on orders over $100.
