Today we’ll be taking a look at the Dr. Dabber Aurora (formerly known as the Aura). Dr. Dabber is known for making high-quality wax centric devices like the Boost, and the Aurora is no exception. There are a lot of things to like about the Aurora, but the coolest feature is the magnetic connections that replace the threaded connections that most pens utilize.

On top of this, the Aurora also includes 3 atomizers, all of which work well and offer subtle changes to the overall vaping experience. The vapor quality is outstanding, and you’d be hard-pressed to find anything that will put out vapor with more flavor than this unit.

If these features have you interested, keep reading to get a full review of what the Aurora has to offer…

Product Pros

Dr. Dabber Aurora Wax Pen Review: Breakdown

Build Quality

Build Quality

Everything about the Aurora is well made, but the magnetic connections are the really interesting feature on this unit. Before getting a chance to review it, we could see this being a gimmicky sales feature that didn’t actually work well in practice.

As it turns out, they nailed the magnet strength. Based on our experience, you won’t have to worry at all about the connections not being good enough. The unit stays together when you want it too, but you’ll also have no problems pulling them apart.

The 3 atomizers that come with the base connect with ease and are all well designed. They all have a quartz dish, but you’ll be able to choose between a dual quartz rod, a dual ceramic rod or a ceramic halo / donut.

Vapor Quality

Dr. Dabber designs all of their vaporizers to deliver functional vapor with unbeatable flavor. The way that they do this is by keeping temperatures low, as the terpenes that provide the pleasant flavors people enjoy are easily destroyed at the temperatures many pens use. You can read more about the correlation between temperature and flavor here.

This means that you can expect extremely flavorful vapor from the Aurora, but there is a trade-off. While functionality will not be impacted, you won’t be able to get clouds as thick as other units can create. In our books, flavor and effectiveness are more important than appearance, so this doesn’t seem like a big deal.

If you really want to see thick clouds, you will need to keep it at the highest temperature setting (there are 3) and take a long draw.

Look and Feel

There’s nothing all that special about the appearance of the Aurora, but it still looks and feels like a high end unit. The matte finish and design elements clearly stand out from those on cheaper units when closely inspected, but when viewed from far away it would be hard to distinguish this from other units like the Kandypens Galaxy.

On that note, the Aurora benefits from its similarity in form to other vaporizers because these pen vapes are becoming so ubiquitous that people don’t really pay much attention to them anymore. The matte finish is also better than something glossy if discretion is important to you because it won’t attract as much attention as something more flashy like the Source Orb 4 Premium Kit.

Another thing about the Aurora that will help you stay unnoticed is the lower temperature settings. As mentioned earlier, you’ll find this device delivers flavor and function, with little visible vapor when you exhale. This is especially true if you take a short to average sized draw of 5 seconds or less.

Ease of Use

This might be the easiest-to-use pen vape that we have ever tried, and that’s saying something when you consider how easy they all are! The magnetic connections just take this to a whole new level, as putting the unit together, swapping atomizers, and even charging take no more than a second of your time.

Everything else is just like other Dr. Dabber products: 5 clicks of the single button to turn it on, then pressing that same button to engage the heating element.

This is as portable as you are going to find in a vaporizer. It has a good battery life, it is well built, and it is small enough that it can easily be carried in a bag or pocket. The connections are good enough that we didn’t notice any leakage or spills, regardless of how it was stored or carried before and after use. The USB charger also means finding a place to refresh your batteries is as easy as it can get.

The Aurora is definitely one of the best concentrate pens on the market right now. We have absolutely no problem recommending this device, regardless of your experience level. The vapor is good enough to please even seasoned vape users, but the unit is still easy enough to use that beginners will have no problem figuring out how to get great results as well.

The coolest features are the magnetic connections and the 3 stock atomizers, but they would mean nothing if the vapor wasn’t good. The flavor is the real selling point of the Aurora’s vapor, and the only downside is that you’ll have to work a bit harder to get thick clouds.

If the Aurora is a unit that “attracts” you, be sure to grab yours from TVape.com. And while you’re here, check out our review of another Dr. Dabber product, the Boost “eRig”. It’s a cool new device that allows you to take dabs without the use of a torch!

Hopefully you found this review helpful, and be sure to let us know what you think of the Aurora!

Compatible with ZEUS Iceborn
This vaporizer is compatible with the ZEUS Iceborn, a revolutionary new vapor cooling system engineered by Canadian vape manufacturer ZEUSArsenal. The Iceborn is designed to produce cooler draws and bigger clouds when connected to your vaporizer. The vapour produced is ultra smooth and crisp and because of ice cooling, instead of water filtration, there is no loss of efficiency. The ZEUS Iceborn adds an additional 2 points to the vapor quality score of this vaporizer and is a highly recommended vaporizer accessory.
