Innokin is a company that makes a lot of products for beginner or intermediate vapers, which is great since a lot of big vape companies tend to forget about that segment and most products they are putting out are so advanced it makes vaping too intimidating for some. Although Innokin is a company that is expert in making beginner products, they want to remind the whole vaping world that they can make advanced mods too, enter the Innokin Proton.

Looking at the Innokin Proton, you can’t deny that it looks well-designed and well-crafted. It is a box mod but Innokin made it super ergonomic and the design is very tasteful. Honestly speaking, when you look at the Proton carefully, it has similarities with some other big name vape company’s products.

It is not a bad thing though since the design works well. It has a huge fire bar on the side to help with the ergonomics and a big 1.45 inch TFT color screen display. The screen display’s theme color can be changed and you can choose from six colors depending on your mood or style. On the bottom of the screen, you will see a joystick style selector which I think is a first for a mod like this.

The joystick can be utilized to navigate through the menus and settings adjustment. I think the joystick helps with the minimalist design but I am honestly not really a fan since you will be relying on just one button for all your menu adjustments which can slow you down sometimes.

Below the joystick is a micro USB port for firmware upgrade and charging. The maximum charge current of this micro USB port is 2A so it’s really fast but I recommend charging the batteries using an external battery charger. The Innokin Proton supports dual 18650 batteries so it is a very big plus.

There is nothing on the back of the mod aside from the beautiful textured carbon fiber like finish. The kit comes with the Scion 2 tank atomizer and it is primarily made of stainless steel. The Scion 2 has an e liquid capacity of 3.5 ml and has a spare glass tube that has a capacity of 5 ml.

The Scion 2 tank features a sliding top fill cap design which makes refilling e liquid super convenient. The Innokin Proton also comes with various hardware and battery protections such as low resistance, dual circuit and reverse polarity protection to always keep you safe and worry free while vaping.

The Innokin Proton kit comes in 3 different color options. Only the body trim and the Scion 2 tank’s color are different though as the body of the mod is always black in color. You can get the Proton kit in black, metallic gray and rainbow.

Vapor Quality

The Innokin Proton kit comes with the Scion 2 tank atomizer and two coil heads. The pre-installed coil head has a resistance of 0.36 ohm and is just like any standard coil head from Innokin. This coil head can produce great flavor and massive vapor and is perfect for everyday vape time.

The other included coil head is the new Plexus coil from Innokin. The Plexus coil has a resistance of 0.15 ohm and what’s really special about it is how it is made. There is a huge difference between a regular mesh coil and the new Plexus coil. A mesh coil is just like a thin strip of kanthal with very tiny holes while the Plexus coil is a whole kanthal panel with aligned holes.

By doing this, it makes it more durable since it is thicker than a mesh coil which greatly helps with its longevity. Innokin also guarantees that the Plexus coil’s resistance will be constant all through its lifetime which means it will produce excellent flavor and vapor all the time.

The Innokin Proton is not only a variable wattage mod but it also features temperature control for those vapers who like a more controlled vaping style and it supports nickel, titanium, and stainless steel coils.

If you don’t want to buy new coil heads all the time, Innokin provided an option for everyone to get an RTA unit so you can build your own coils on your Scion 2 tank atomizer which is a nice option to have since most tank atomizers nowadays don’t have that feature.

The Innokin Proton mod with the Scion 2 tank atomizer installed is not the smallest kit on the market but it is still a pocket friendly device. The Proton mod is only 85 mm in height, 44.6 mm in width and 29.6 mm in depth so you won’t have any problems carrying it around or storing in a bag.

It is also a good device to bring when traveling since you don’t have to always bring an external battery charger. It has a 2A micro USB port which can quickly charge your batteries and as long as you have access to a USB powered port, you can charge it anywhere.

Innokin Proton inclined view

If you want a beautifully designed mod that can satisfy all your vaping needs, then the Innokin Proton kit surely ticks all the right boxes with its large 1.45 inch TFT color screen display, powerful max output of 235 watts and support for temperature control for a more personalized vaping experience. Paired with the Scion 2 tank atomizer which is an excellent tank and is probably the best tank Innokin has made with its outstanding flavor and vapor production. You really can’t go wrong with this mod and atomizer combination.
