Joyetech ESPION Silk Review - Smooth as Silk

The ESPION Silk’s design is so much different from the previous ESPION mods and it makes me wonder if they did a mistake in naming it an ESPION. The unique aspect design of the ESPION Silk is very visible and they are the rubber pads that are attached to the mod itself. It looks like just a normal rubber but they are made with a hypoallergenic material and are made for people with sensitive skin. This feature alone kind of makes the ESPION Silk a niche device but it also makes sense to have a device like this.

When I first saw the Joyetech Espion Silk, I honestly don’t know what to make of it. It looks like a patchwork or something because of the way the rubber pads are attached to the body of the mod. It looks like someone just randomly glued rubber paddings on the mod for some reason and it really made me confused and asked if this is the final product design.

I am not a design expert but you really can’t blame me for saying that the Joyetech Espion Silk is one of the worst looking mods on the market. However, picking up the mod changes everything, and the ugly looking mod suddenly grew on me and changed my perspective. The Espion Silk is super lightweight and it really feels nice to hold. Looking at it for a second time, I kind of understand their decision with the design.

It now somehow looks like a rugged mod made for the adventurous and I kind of want to do a drop test but the Espion Silk is really not made for that. I am not pretty sure what these rubber-looking pads are made of but they have hypoallergenic properties. They look like rubber but they are not as soft and as bouncy as a rubber.

Since they are hypoallergenic, the Espion Silk is perfect for the vapers who are allergic to all kinds of metals. Most mods nowadays are made of either stainless steel, brass, or aluminum, and if you are one of the people who are unfortunate to be allergic to those, I am pretty sure you will love the Espion Silk.

Aside from the hypoallergenic rubber pads, the Espion Silk is primarily made of plastic so it is super lightweight. It has a built-in battery with a capacity of 2800 mah and has a maximum output of 80 watts. Not minding the unique design and construction, the Espion Silk is a pretty standard mod from Joyetech.

The fire button, screen display, and up and down buttons are all present and it features a fast 2A charging for its built-in battery which I’m pretty sure makes everyone happy. The kit comes with the new NotchCore tank atomizer that utilizes the innovative NotchCore coils. The kit also comes in 3 different color options and you can get it in black, orange or brown.

The kit comes with the NotchCore tank atomizer. It looks like a pretty standard 22 mm tank that has dual adjustable airflow and a sliding top fill design but what sets it apart from the other tank atomizers on the market is the coil it uses called the NotchCoil.

Most tanks nowadays use coil heads but the NotchCoil is different. It is similar to the typical pre-built coils that are used for rebuildable atomizers in terms of appearance but it is different in terms of build. The NotchCoil is made of flat wire and has gold-plated rings on both ends that are inserted to the positive and negative clamps of the deck.

The NotchCoil is innovative in the way that you can reuse it multiple times just like a normal coil. The NotchCoil has a resistance of 0.45 ohm and is rated to use between 20 watts to 30 watts. The NotchCore tank has a single coil setup and but with the NotchCoil, flavor and vapor are exceptional. It also has dual adjustable airflow so you can personalize your vaping style.

The Espion Silk not only can output 80 watts of power on power mode, it also features temperature mode for your nickel, stainless steel, and titanium coils, and memory mode to customize your power curves.

The NotchCore tank, however, is a small 22 mm atomizer and only has an e liquid capacity of 2.5 ml. It’s pretty small in today’s standards and I wish they had made it slightly bigger to accommodate more e liquid.

The Espion Silk with the NotchCore atomizer is only 120 mm in height, 40 mm in width and 29.50 mm in thickness.

It is not the most compact mod but it is ergonomic and super lightweight, which makes it a good device to carry around when you are out and about.

The Espion Silk can be considered a niche vape mod but I am impressed with Joyetech as they are aware of the needs of some vapers. Not all vapers are fine handling metals like stainless steel, aluminum or brass and having the Espion Silk around can change the market.

The vapers who are allergic to those metals can now enjoy vaping on a quality product knowing that the company who made this mod is Joyetech, who have been around for years. The Espion Silk is not only for those specific group of people, if you want a unique, rugged-looking mod, then I am pretty sure you will like this device.
