Build Quality

Joyetech is known to make quality products and that is true for the Ultex T80 as well. At first, I thought the Ultex T80 was made of stainless steel due to the feel and heft of the device but I was surprised to know that it was actually made of aluminum.

The device feels premium and the lines that make the whole design is very tasteful. It looks futuristic but it is not those over-the-top design that kind of makes some device look bad. The Ultex T80 features a 0.49 inch screen display on the bottom which is rarely seen on a tube mod. It reminds me of the old vaping days where the Provari and the Lavatube reign supreme.

The fire button has a usual LED glow when being pressed which some mods have and there is a standard up and down buttons just right above the display for setting adjustments. While we are used to some tube mods that have mediocre quality, the Ultex T80 while being a tube mod, has a premium feeling from the construction and finish, right down to the smooth 510 and battery cap threading.

The Ultex T80 is powered by a single 18650 battery and has a maximum power output of 80 watts. I know from experience that a single 18650 won’t last long if you vape at max 80 watts but it should be fine around 30 to 50 watts.

I am not very fond of internal batteries that are not removable but I think it will be better to have that instead of just a single 18650 since some non-removable batteries can have a capacity of more than 2000mah which an 18650 battery has. The Ultex T80 kit comes with the Cubis Max tank which has a diameter of 28mm with a top fill design and dual adjustable airflow control. It is made of stainless steel and comes with a 510 delrin drip tip.

Vapor Quality

Joyetech introduces their new innovation in the form of a coil-less heating element design called the NCFilm. It is a thin and flat heating element made of kanthal which sits directly on top of an organic cotton. It is actually similar to some coil designs we have seen like the Aspire Radial coil but the difference is that you can clean the NCFilm and replace its cotton.

Since the NCFilm is flat and has a wider heating area than normal coils, the flavor and vapor you can get from it are superb. There is actually no break in required and right off the bat, it will produce the best flavor and vapor you can get off on an e liquid.

While the NCFilm proves to be an excellent coil design when it comes to flavor and vapor production and can have a longer lifespan than most coils, the problem is how to maintain its longevity. You can definitely clean the NCFilm and Joyetech suggests using a cloth to do it but there are times when you need to dry burn the coil and clean it with running water to remove the gunk and there is no way to do it with NCFilm.

The Cubis Max is a nice beefy tank but what’s odd is that it only uses a 510 drip tip and is not compatible with 810s. Considering that it is a fairly big tank, it’s only natural that it should support bigger drip tips.

The Ultex T80 with the Cubis Max tank installed is 138.5mm in height and 28mm in diameter. It is on the bigger side compared to some tube mods but it is still very pocketable due to its shape.

Since it uses a single 18650 battery, taking it anywhere will not be a problem since you can always bring extra batteries and it also has a micro USB port for charging if needed.

The Joyetech Ultex T80 and the Cubis Max tank are a very good vaping kit with outstanding features. There might be some parts that can be improved upon but I can honestly say that Joyetech is headed in the right direction with their innovative NCFilm heater. It produces excellent flavor and vapor quality and while I experienced some spitbacks, it went away quickly on the first few puffs.

While the issue of cleaning the NCFilm may not be a big of a deal, it produces the question on whether it can actually last a long time since you can’t use the normal method of dry burn cleaning. Overall, I really like how it vapes and I would recommend it to those who love tube mods.
