Today we’ll be reviewing the Kanger Kone Starter Kit by Kanger. Kanger has put out some great kits in the past, including the Subox and Topbox models, so we were naturally excited to put this one to the test. Just from looking at it, you can tell that it was designed with simplicity in mind. This isn’t going to be a highly versatile vape, but it could be a good option for beginners or people who just want something easy.

Product Pros

  1. Very simple to use
  2. One button design
  3. Top-filling tank
  4. Good vapor
  5. Decent battery life

Product Cons

  1. Included tank isn’t great
  2. Button rattle

Kanger Topbox Full Kit Review: Breakdown

Build Quality

Build Quality

Let’s just say that you can tell that this is an inexpensive beginner’s kit. You can’t change any settings at all, and there’s just one button. This appeals to some people, but the problem is that the manufacturing quality isn’t very good. Simple isn’t the same as cheap, but you may be getting both with this kit.

The biggest problem is that the button rattles and makes noise when you move the unit around. While I personally don’t mind this so much, I know that there are a lot of people out there who hate when this happens. The more often you plan to use your vape, the more likely you’ll find this a nuisance.

The included 3.5mL Pangu tank is a mix of nice features and disappointing performance. I definitely like how easy it is to change your coil. This makes maintenance a breeze. I also like that it fills from the top.

On the other hand, I don’t like that you can’t adjust the airflow. There are just two wide-open slots at the bottom of the tank. This is great if you like unrestricted draws but not-so-good if you want a bit of resistance.

Vapor Quality

The vapor quality was average. The flavor could have been better, for starters. To be clear, it’s not that the flavor was bad. There just wasn’t much of it. This is definitely a tank-specific problem because the same liquid in a different tank will deliver a much more vibrant flavor.

For this reason, I wouldn’t spend much money on juice to put in this tank. You won’t get to enjoy it like you should. If you plan on buying cheap liquids anyway, the dull flavor may actually be a good thing.

On a positive note, the clouds were actually a bit better than expected. For a unit that doesn’t allow you to adjust the wattage or temperature, you still get nice, dense vapor production.

Kanger Kone & Pangu Tank

This is not a versatile vape, there’s just no getting around that fact. If you are looking for variable wattage, you’ll have to look elsewhere. If you are looking for temperature control, then you’re definitely going to have to look elsewhere.

This vape isn’t supposed to be versatile though, so that really isn’t a mark against it. Its meant to be incredibly simple, and that means delivering an experience that you don’t have to think about. It does that well.

The Kanger Kone is small enough and has a good enough battery to make it portable enough for most people. There are smaller units out there, and definitely ones with bigger batteries, but this one certainly isn’t cumbersome or inconvenient.

Portability could have been improved with a removable, swappable battery. As it stands, the 3000mAh battery delivers enough power for a day’s worth of moderate vaping. The top of the unit does have an LED battery life display to warn you if you are running low.

I’d only recommend the Kanger Kone Starter Kit if you are looking for an extremely basic introduction to vaping. Even if that is the case, you may be better off considering a different kit.

You aren’t getting much for the money in this, and you have absolutely no room to work up to more advanced vaping. You can’t even adjust wattage to make sure you are getting ideal flavor and vapor levels.

There are plenty of easy-to-use mods out there that deliver much more versatility. The Kanger Topbox Mini is probably a good place to start looking. It offers all of the strengths that this one does but with a lot more options as well.
