Just from a single glance it’s going to be difficult not to fall in love with the aesthetic of the G80. With it’s subdued, compact design that fits comfortably in the palm of the hand, and solid build quality that from the first puff you’ll know that this device is well built. All the buttons feel satisfying to press and there is absolutely no rattle when handling the mod even with the vigorous shaking it was subjected to.

The G80 features an all too uncommon mechanism for accessing the battery compartment which involves sliding the top out from the bottom which are held together by a set of ball bearings. The process of changing batteries is a lot easier, and its good knowing that unlike other mods which use magnets to hold the battery door in place, the ball bearings used on the G80 aren’t prone to falling off anytime soon (compared to most magnets which are simply glued on).

The G80 features a screen very similar to other Smok devices which is nice as they display a lot of information regarding the device although it has to be pointed out the screen on the G80 is a tad bit dim which makes viewing any information outdoors on a bright sunny day difficult.

The included Spirals tank comes with a 0.6ohms dual coil pre-installed and a 0.3ohm dual coil which can be swapped in. Flavor and airflow on the 0.6 ohm coils felt a bit restricted but swapping them out for the 0.3ohm dual coils made a huge difference in terms of vapor production and flavor.

Flavors from the juice really pop and don’t feel the least bit muted. As for refilling it with juice, the tank is filled from the top and doesn’t have much threads making opening and closing it up quick and easy.

Although the Spirals tank is designed for restricted lung hits, the airflow is adjustable but don’t expect to take huge airy puffs from this tank. Due to the design of the airflow it’s recommended to vape at low wattages ranging from 20 to 50 watts as anything higher than that will increase the likelihood of getting a dry hit.

Versatility

Versatility

Despite it’s ultra sleek and compact form it doesn’t feel like Smok skimped on the features given to the G80. It still features the full set of temperature control options allowing one to vape at their desired temp using stainless steel, titanium, or nickel coils. The temperature control feels accurate as well which is great in keeping up with the standard of most Smok products.

The device can also accommodate atomizers up to almost 25mm in diameter. I say almost because there is a very slight  bit of overhang when attaching a 25mm atomizer on top, but its almost unnoticeable. This means that the G80 is compatible with a huge variety of RDAs and tanks that are available on the market right now with very little exception (A pet peeve of mine is really liking a specific device only to find out that it can only fit up to 22mm atomizers).

I feel like this feature alone is a big variable to consider the G80 over other similarly sized devices. The G80 goes up to a maximum of 80 watts as well so it’s definitely no slouch in the power output department.

Portability

Portability

The G80 uses a single swappable 18650 battery which is sufficient if you’re going to be sticking with the included tank and coils, but anyone looking into using bigger or lower resistance coils is certainly going to feel the battery life diminish quickly. Although a minor inconvenience it can’t really be considered a con especially when considering the sheer size and weight of the G80: a mere 96 grams with a height of 75.5mm and width of 38.5mm. The G80 will fit into any pocket or storage solution with ease.

I have to give a point against the Spirals tank though since it unfortunately houses a meager 2ml of juice in the tank which can sometimes be a pain to fill regularly if you’re out and on the go, a scenario which I imagine this mod is designed for.

It seems that Smok aimed to keep the device as small as possible but sometimes I wish they didnt choose to sacrifice the juice reservoir on the tank. It’s a good thing the G80 itself can fit almost any other tank on top if ever you feel that the Spiral tank’s 2mm reservoir to be lacking.

SMOK G80 Full Kit

Conclusion

The G80 kit is a perfect blend of technology, aesthetics, and practicality. With the mod’s accurate temperature control housed in a tiny and beautiful frame, and the Spirals exceptional flavor and ease of use, its hard to say if Smok pulled any punches in releasing this mod in the market.

A definite top pick for anyone looking for a well built, portable mod, that supports options for lots of other atomizers you might choose to use it with in the future. It’s appealing design coupled with the small size and ability to swap batteries leaves little reason to choose an alternative mod.  With its maximum 80 watt power delivery, and compatibility with bigger atomizers to give opportunity for those 80 watts to truly stretch its legs, the G80 is a solid purchase for new and experienced vapers alike.

If you still don’t think this is the unit for you but like the idea of a very portable unit check out the iStick Pico and if you are looking for one with a bit more power check out the Coolfire IV 100W.
