The Utillian 720 and the DaVinci IQ both occupy the top tier of vaporizers, but they have a very different set of features. One is fully convection while the other is fully conduction. One is simple and straightforward, while the other is full of advanced features. If you’re having a hard time choosing between these two or are just trying to figure out which one is better, read this full comparison to find out…

Vapor Quality

Utillian 720

The Utillian 720 is a convection vaporizer, meaning hot air is drawn through your herbs to create the vapor. This method of vaporization leads to even heating and excellent flavor, and the results speak for themselves with the 720.

The vapor produced is very smooth and tastes great. The flavor is best at lower temperatures, but still very good as you go higher as well. This has four base temperatures that can all be boosted by 5 degrees. The vapor didn’t become harsh until I bumped it up to the very highest setting, and even then it really wasn’t that bad.

DaVinci IQ

The IQ is a conduction vaporizer, meaning the heat is delivered directly to the walls of the chamber, which then heat up your herb. This method can deliver denser clouds, though most people also find it delivers worse flavor than convection heating.

Don’t judge the IQ too quickly though, because the flavor is actually very good. This is partly due to a vapor pathway that is completely ceramic zirconia, but the IQ is also just really good at heating so it doesn’t run into the traditional problems associated with conduction. Overall vapor production is similar to the 720, but the 720 does slightly outperform the IQ on flavor.

Vapor Quality Winner: 720

Build Quality

Utillian 720

The 720 is well built. There’s nothing all that fancy about it, but it has everything that you need and it works very well. You aren’t going to get a bunch of advanced features like a digital screen, precise temperature control, or an app, but there are times I wonder how much any of those really improve the experience of vaping weed.

Even though it doesn’t have any of that, the 720 is still setup to produce thick, delicious vapor. It does this very well, and the simplicity of using it is very refreshing.

There is actually only one button on the 720. You press it 5 times to turn it on, twice to cycle through temperature options, and pressing and holding it will engage the 5 degree boost mode. The temperature level is indicated by the LED lights.

DaVinci IQ

While the 720 is straightforward and unadorned, the IQ is high tech and full of innovative features. I already mentioned the ceramic zirconia vapor pathway, but in case you weren’t aware, that is a relatively advanced material that other people aren’t using. It’s supposed to be stronger and more pure than other ceramics from what I can tell.

Then there’s the app and all the sophisticated heating styles that it offers. The one that everyone gets excited about is the Smart Path option, which automatically increases the temperature that it is being heated to throughout your session.

You can also increase the temperature in one degree increments from the device itself. The battery used in the IQ is a removable 18650.

Despite the fact that DaVinci clearly put a lot of work into filling the IQ with features, I honestly think these are about the same in overall quality. Being full of features doesn’ automatically mean you are built better.

Build Quality Winner: Draw

Utillian 720

The 720 is a great option if you are looking for something that is convenient to carry. For starters, it’s small enough to carry in a bag or pocket. Another point that isn’t always considered is that the exterior is pretty scratch resistant, meaning you don’t have to worry about ruining its appearance from bumping against things as you carry it.

DaVinci IQ

The IQ is slightly smaller than the 720, but not by much. The battery life isn’t very good though. It’s theoretically capable of up to 1.5 hours per charge, but it seems to underachieve consistently based on my experience.

Portability Winner: Draw

Utillian 720

While the 720 is bigger, the results when using it at low temperatures are better. This means you can get a great experience while having minimal odor and visible vapor. It is also one of the least flashy vaporizers I’ve ever used, which is obviously a good thing when you don’t want attention.

DaVinci IQ

The IQ’s main advantage is that its smaller. It also has a stealth mode the helps keep odors to a minimum. In my opinion, neither one of these outperforms the other. You should be able to keep a relatively low profile with either.

Discreetness Winner: Tie

Winner: Utillian 720

The winner is the Utillian 720.

These are both very good vapes. The 720 earned the victory thanks to its performance in the vapor quality category, because they tied in every other one I judged them on. They both have very different strengths, and it is hard to call one better than the other because of this.

The main strengths of the 720 are the excellent flavor of its vapor and the simplicity yet effectiveness of its build. The IQ’s main strengths are its innovative features and good vapor production despite being fully conduction.

The 720 offers the better vapor though and therefore deserves this win. When you factor in the fact that it is also a good deal cheaper, I’d say it’s a much better buy for most people.

If you are thinking of picking up a Utillian 720 or the DaVinci IQ, we recommend grabbing them from, they have no tax and free shipping on orders over $100.
